Raliang police outpost has been upgraded to a full-fledged police station.
The upgrade was inaugurated by cabinet minister Comingone Ymbon in the presence of West Jaintia Hills Superintendent of Police C Syrti today.
Village representatives from the area and other personalities were also present on the occasion.
Ymbon, in a speech, said that he has been pushing hard for the government to upgrade the outpost and stressed that the upgrade is not due to the rise in crime in the area but is an initiative to bring the administration closer to the people and cut down on the need for the public to travel to Jowai for police station work.
He also mentioned that with the existing land on which the police station is located is rather small and he appealed to the Dorbar Shnongs to intervene so that land can be acquired for its expansion.
