The 4th Roll Ball National Federation Cup came to a close yesterday, with a spectacular display of skill, speed and teamwork by some of the best roll ball players from across the country.
Rajasthan won the women’s title and Maharashtra the men’s. The tournament was organised by the Roll Ball Federation of India and Meghalaya Roll Ball Association at St Anthony’s Higher Secondary School here on May 4-5.
Roll ball is a sport that combines basketball, handball and throwball on roller skates (or roller shoes).
Participating teams comprised hosts Meghalaya, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Kerala, Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, Roller Sports & Social Academy (RSSA), Assam, Jharkhand, Tamil Nadu and West Bengal.
Tamil Nadu were second in the women’s category, while Assam were third. Jharkhand were runners-up in the men’s event, with Rajasthan third.
There were various dignitaries present during the two-day event. These included Meghalaya State Olympic Association (MSOA) working president John F Kharshiing, MSOA general secretary Finely L Pariat, Roll Ball Federation of India president Tapan Acharya, St Anthony’s HSS Principal Fr Anthony Kharkongor and Mohammedan Sporting assistant coach Alison Kharsyntiew, among others.
