The Bethany Society in collaboration with EnAble India, organized a Purple Event titled, ‘Hat Jingkyrsiew’ (Jagruthi Mela) at its campus today.
The event aimed to provide vital information and knowledge on education, skilling, government schemes, training programs, and livelihood opportunities for persons with disabilities (PWDs).
Interactive cells and exhibitions that focused on Early Intervention, Inclusive Education, Social Welfare, Health Care, Assistive Solutions, Legal Rights and Entitlements, Self-employment, Wage Employment, Stories of Achievers-Garv Se Bazar (a marketplace celebrating entrepreneurship by PwDs) were part of the programme.
According to the 2011 Census, Meghalaya is home to 44,317 persons with disabilities. The event provided a consolidated platform for PWDs and their families to access various services and opportunities.
Social Welfare Minister Paul Lyngdoh who attended the programme as chief guest stressed on the importance of self-improvement, stating that the biggest room in the world is for self-improvement. He encouraged the audience to strive for continuous growth and development.
“There are many who have clear eyesight but no vision, many who can hear but don’t listen, and many who have feet but don’t move forward. So, who is disabled then?” he remarked.
