The new laws are the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita and Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam, all introduced in 2023. They replace the Indian Penal Code 1860, Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC) 1973 and Indian Evidence Act 1872 respectively.
The programme held yesterday was jointly organised by NEHU’s Department of Law, Pro Bono Associate Club and Legal Care and Support Centre in compliance with instructions of the Union Ministry of Education.
The resource persons presented the changes that were brought about by the new laws.
