The independent inquiry committee probing into the various anomalies and corruption charges in Meghalaya Energy Corporation Limited (MeECL) is preparing its inquiry report for submission to the State government before the deadline of March 31.
This was informed by Deputy Chief Minister in-charge Power, Prestone Tynsong in the Assembly today while replying to a query raised by Leader of Opposition Mukul Sangma on the status of the inquiry into the alleged irregularities in the implementation of projects under Saubhagya in the State.
Stating that the Saubhagya scheme is also under the scope of the inquiry, Tynsong said that the inquiry committee had issued a public notice inviting interested persons to depose before it and had also met officials of MeECL and sought all the required documents.
“At present, the committee is preparing the report for submission before the deadline on March 31, 2022,” Tynsong said.
Tynsong said that the inquiry committee headed by Justice (retired) R N Mishra of the Allahabad High Court commenced its proceedings and has made 18 sittings to date.
Justice Mishra is assisted by retired IAS officer Manoj Kumar as an Administrative Member and retired REC Executive Director Sunil Kumar as Technical Member.
Tynsong also informed that the independent inquiry committee had been notified to inquire inter alia, into the various aspects of functioning of the MeECL pertaining to procurement, AT&C losses and Human Resources Management.
It may be mentioned that Chief Minister Conrad Sangma was forced to strip off the Power portfolio from James Sangma after allegations from several quarters about alleged irregularities and scandals in the implementation of various projects by MeECL.
