In what will come as a welcome move for the people of Tura, West Garo Hills police has announced that as part of the beautification of the district, all abandoned vehicles lying on the roads of the town, would be removed.
In an announcement on their social media handle, took the decision in view of the huge traffic snarls in the town.
“The vehicle owners are requested not to park their vehicles randomly on the road as it creates huge traffic congestion and is a major security concern in the run up to Republic Day and Meghalaya Day celebrations,” said the police post.
Photographs of some of the vehicles that were removed from the road side were uploaded with the owners being asked to approach the Tura traffic branch to retake possession of their vehicles after the completion of the due process of the law.
Further another observation made was that some garage owners were repairing vehicles on the main road leading to huge inconvenience to people.
“In future, we will be regulating such activities strictly and criminal proceedings will be initiated against the defaulters,” warned the police media post while seeking support from all concerned in their efforts to ease the traffic congestion in the town.
