Concerned with the growing numbers of homeless people in Khliehriat and Ladrymbai, a lawyer and resident of Dkhiah West, Kerlang Ksoo has urged the Social Welfare department to assist them in getting their basic needs.
Ksoo said there are many homeless people roaming around especially along the national highway. He said some of them suffer from mental illness and are exposed to greater adversity.
The lawyer has submitted his petition along with names of the people to the district social welfare officer in Khliehriat. Calling for providing medical help to such people he also stressed on engaging experts in mental health to deal with such cases.
He said residents do their bid to provide them food when needed but there is a need for more concerted action from the department to tackle the social crisis that is there in East Jaiñtia Hills and on its streets.
