The Superintendent of Police of East Khasi Hills has issued reminders to vehicle drivers and riders to follow one way and overtaking rules as well as limits on noise.
The SP said today that many two-wheelers and four-wheelers have had their exhausts modified in order to create more noise and that this is illegal. He also said that, despite numerous reminders, many private vehicles use unauthorised tinted films on their windows, flashing lights, sirens and extra bright headlights, which are also illegal.
Other drivers of four-wheelers and riders of two-wheelers ignore one way road restrictions, thereby causing traffic jams and risking accidents. Many two-wheelers are also guilty of overtaking from the left-hand side of other vehicles, which “makes it hazardous for other commuters, especially for pedestrians and passengers deboarding from vehicles”, not to mention increasing the risk of accidents as vehicles they overtake may not see them coming from the left.
