The state police have cautioned those seeking to apply for the 3,000 vacancies in the service from falling for the promises of touts.
There have been cases in the past when touts have promised the gullible jobs in the police.
Deputy Inspector General Davis Marak, who is also a member of the recruitment board, said today that there have been instances when touts claimed to be part of the recruitment board or the police and gave assurances that they will help the candidates clear the entrance exams or even the interview.
“All the candidates should note that they should not respond to such people,” Marak said. “These are all fake as far as the CRB (Central Recruitment Board) is concerned as we have mentioned at each stage that it will be a transparent recruitment. We will not allow such people to take advantage.”
Recruitment into the police is highly sought after and highly competitive. To get a leg up, the gullible, the vulnerable and the desperate may be lured by touts into parting with their money for the promise of a secure job.
In the last recruitment process, there were touts who had been arrested after FIRs were filed, Marak informed.
“It is our appeal to please not listen to such touts and please believe in yourself and believe in the transparent recruitment process that Meghalaya police will be conducting,” he urged.
The application for the vacancies is to be made online. In case applicants find difficulty in doing so, they have been advised to visit their local Superintendent of Police’s office or Commandant’s office for help to upload documents, etc.
Anyone with doubts can contact the helpline number (6033164273) during office hours from 10am to 5pm or email policetrg-meg@gov.in.
This will be one of the biggest recruitment drives carried out by the Meghalaya police. The last recruitment was held in 2019 and completed only recently. The delay was caused due to court cases and the Covid-19 pandemic.
