In the midst of criticisms on the ‘silence’ of Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the Manipur violence, Chief Minister Conrad Sangma said his visit is important for confidence-building measures.
“It is important for confidence building for people of Manipur and hence steps should be taken by the government of India, including the visit of Prime Minister, Home Minister and political leaders and to appeal for peace,” Sangma said in a video message.
Sangma was part of the all-party meeting, convened by Union Home Minister Amit Shah to discuss the prevailing situation in Manipur today.
He said his party, the NPP, has urged the centre to ensure that strict action should be taken against different armed groups involved in any violence and they must be brought under control.
Sangma informed that one of the primary concerns raised was the need for adequate relief materials for the affected population, especially in the relief camps.
He further call for a “healing touch” in Manipur and said it is important that all political parties, different organisations, religious groups, to reach out to all sections of society and to appeal for peace and tranquillity in Manipur.
