A 2km stretch of road under the central government’s Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) is in dire condition due to a lack of repairs ever since it was constructed seven years ago.
This was stated by the Phulbari regional units of the Garo Students Union (GSU) and A’chik Holistic Awakening Movement (AHAM) in a joint release yesterday.
The stretch of road runs from Shyamnagar to Gopalthan in West Garo Hills and was constructed in 2017. The entire road is about 10km.
“The lack of upkeep has resulted in immense inconvenience and hardship for the residents and commuters who rely on this route for their daily transportation needs,” the statement from the two pressure groups said. “Students, workers and residents alike face significant challenges due to the deteriorating condition of the road, including increased travel time, vehicle damage and safety hazards.”
