The Sohiong circle of the Hynniewtrep Youths Council (HYC) has described the Public Health Engineering Department’s electrical devision of recklessly implementing a retrofitting scheme to provide functional household tap connections (FHTCs) at Wahnongkseh.
Speaking to Highland Post, HYC Sohiong circle president Purningstar Shabong said the pressure group has complained about the matter to the responsible Executive Engineer of Mawphlang Division in August.
According to the complaint, the pipes have not been properly laid or tied and most of them are broken. The HYC also said that the pipes in Pyndengmawphlang, which is some distance away from Wahnongkseh, are too small to meet the need for water by the 17 households in the locality.
Shabong also lamented that the main reservoir at Laitnongkseh has not been constructed to date. The authorities were quick to act, however, when the HYC conducted a recent inspection, with a rusty water tank soon removed from the spot, he added.
