The Additional Deputy Commissioner of South West Khasi Hills has reminded the general public that it is mandatory to obtain a public performance license from Recorded Music Performance Ltd (RMPL), an empowered body, under the Copyright Act 1957 for use of any copyrighted music, particularly for any event or programme organised in a public place or commercial establishment in Meghalaya.
The licence fee as stipulated by RMPL is payable by the users of music, failing which they will have committed an offence under the Copyright Act.
