Cabinet minister Paul Lyngdoh today said that ther delay to conduct spot inspection of the boundary along the Langpih sector was due to lack of response from the boundary committee of Assam.
Speaking to media persons here, Lyngdoh who is the chairman of the regional committee on boundary, West Khasi Hills zone said that Langpih sector just needs one or two days of on-site inspection so that a final recommendation could be made regarding settlement of the border dispute in the area.
“There was a delay in going for the inspection because of the lack of response from the regional committee of Assam,” he said, adding that the Assam government has expressed its willingness to undertake this survey within this month.
Lyngdoh pointed out that the other factor that should be taken into account is that issues like border skirmishes tend to reach a point of conflict when elections are around the corner.
“Given the approaching elections, naturally there will be players and elements trying to raise this issue in a manner that attracts attention,” he added.
