The passing out parade for the 43rd batch of 184 recruit constables and 10 followers was hosted by the 1st MLP Battalion at the Armed Police Training Centre in Mawlai Mawiong here yesterday.
The ceremony was attended by Director General of Police Idashisha Nongrang as the chief guest, along with Commandant of the Battalion Herbert G Lyngdoh, DP Marak Inspector General (Special Branch), Claudia A Lyngwa, Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Police (Tactical Application Police), Davis Marak, DIG Eastern Range and other senior officers.
Nongrang welcomed the new recruits to the Meghalaya Police, and expressed pride that 50 per cent of the constables are women. “It is with a great sense of gratitude and relief to see more representation for women in the police force which is a significant milestone for the Meghalaya Police,” she said.
She said there are many challenges ahead that the new recruits will encounter and experience situations different from what they learnt over the past 11 months of basic training. She hoped that they will contribute to the growth of Meghalaya Police and bring glory to the force.
Nongrang urged the recruits to stand by the solemn oath and not to take it lightly.
