The National People’s Party (NPP) has expressed optimism regarding the support it’s receiving from various political entities in the state for the upcoming Lok Sabha election, while emphasising that it doesn’t take anything for granted.
NPP National President and Chief Minister, Conrad K Sangma, stated on Saturday, “Support from any individual or political party is a positive development. We appreciate all the support coming our way and hope it will have a positive impact on the NPP in the upcoming election.”
Despite being perceived as having an advantage in Tura, Sangma refuted this notion, saying, “I don’t believe in being overconfident. Every election is challenging, and we need to work hard in Tura as well. We won’t take anything for granted.”
Regarding the Shillong seat, Sangma highlighted the NPP’s diligent efforts and expressed gratitude for the support received from various parties, including the BJP and TMC. He stressed the importance of connecting with voters and campaigning vigorously.
Regarding the BJP’s decision to support the NPP candidate in the state, Sangma mentioned a strong understanding among NDA partners to support NDA candidates to the maximum extent possible in each constituency. He elaborated on this understanding, citing examples from Nagaland, Manipur, and Arunachal Pradesh.
Sangma revealed plans to discuss this matter with the Chief Minister of Nagaland and other party leaders, indicating a concerted effort among NPP members to support NDA candidates where NPP has a strong presence or elected representatives.
