A day after the central leadership of the BJP decided to support the NPP candidates for the Lok Sabha election in the state, the Meghalaya unit of the party said that there are times when hard decisions need to be taken.
“Meghalaya BJP, as a party of disciplined karyakartas, understands and abides by the central choice. For BJP, alliance dharma – the right code of conduct for alliance partners – is sacrosanct. Our alliance partners in Meghalaya – National People’s Party, have forfeited their seats in Arunachal Pradesh and outer Manipur and have decided to support BJP candidates. In exchange, BJP has removed candidates from Shillong and Tura Lok Sabha seats which is exactly how partners should behave and function,” BJP state convenor Sabyasachi Ghose said in a press statement on Saturday.
According to Ghose, Meghalaya BJP had been gearing up for the Lok Sabha elections and over the past few months significant strides had been made in every direction; be it Gao ChaloAbhiyan, Labharthi Sampark Yatra, Viksit Bharat Ambassador or Namo App downloads, BJP Meghalaya had been one of the leading states for every central directed program.
Ghose said that as the state leadership changed and Rikman G Momin was handed the mantle of president, the state unit of the party saw significant rise in karyakarta or member base.
“The numbers are growing each day and Meghalaya BJP is certain of increasing its base in the foreseeable future. The party remains confident of a strong show, four years from now, that is during the next Legislative Assembly elections,” the state unit convenor of the BJP said.
