The non-implementation of the Inner Line Permit (ILP) in Meghalaya is down to the incompetence of the Meghalaya Democratic Alliance (MDA) government, KHNAM leader Thomas Passah has claimed.
Stating that the ILP issue has always been a priority for KHNAM since 2002, he said, “In 2019 we saw a ray of hope when a unanimous resolution on ILP was passed by all 60 MLAs in the Assembly but, sadly, to date nothing has materialised and the state government has remained silent on the issue.”
The state government’s argument is that the central government is studying the plea for ILP.
KHNAM had just one MLA in the current Assembly, North Shillong’s Adelbert Nongrum, but the party and the legislator have fallen out. Although a frequent critic of it, Nongrum would vote with the government in the legislature.
Passah said that the resolution passed on ILP in 2019 is nothing but eyewash to only contain the fury of the people.
“The resolution is nothing but a false hope given by the Chief Minister and a drama staged by the rest of all the 60 MLAs who are just actors and not legislators who acted on ILP for self-interest and to fool the people so that no one points a finger at them,” Passah stated.
