The Voice of the People Party (VPP) Pyrnursla circle has said that night curfew without adequate deployment of armed forces along the Indo-Bangladesh border will be ineffective to prevent immigration from Bangladesh to India due to the unrest.
While night curfew is a precautionary measure the VPP has emphasised the need to remain vigilant during the period. “Our primary concern is, if the curfew is enforced without adequate deployment of army or armed forces to secure the border, there may be a risk of unauthorised or unsafe movement at night,” VPP in-charge Pynursla constituency Shemborlang Rynjah said.
While urging residents to stay alert and cautious during the curfew hours, the VPP also called on the government to ensure robust security measures to safeguard the border and prevent any potential threats or breaches.
Former Mawsynram MLA HM Shangpliang has expressed concern over the recent developments in Bangladesh and the impact it has had on the border regions, particularly Mawsynram.
Urging residents, especially the dorbar shnong to be vigilant and monitor any new entrants into the villages, he said the BSF and army are vigilant and hopeful that nothing untoward happens.
He said the political unrest in Bangladesh has affected trade in the region, with the important border haat (market) in Balat witnessing a significant decline in transactions.
Shangpliang expressed hope that the situation would be brought under control soon, allowing trade to resume as usual.
“Considering the border people’s dependency on trade perhaps this turmoil and unrest in Bangladesh recedes at the earliest so trade can be opened,” he added.
