The Hynñiewtrep Youths’ Council (HYC), education cell and its NEHU unit today staged a silent protest outside the Vice Chancellor’s office demanding immediate meet of the academic council or stakeholders to discuss implementation of the National Education Policy (NEP).
Members of the organisation held placards asking NEHU to “stop illegitimate imposition of NEP”, “not to ruin the future of students” and to methodically execute implementation of the policy as per university rule.
HYC Education Secretary Enlang Sawian stated that the Vice Chancellor is adamant by not calling for a meeting with the stakeholders, especially the teachers under the Meghalaya College Teachers Association.
He said the standoff between NEHU and MCTA has hampered students, which the Vice Chancellor has to shoulder responsibility.
According to the HYC, NEP is a policy that will need the approval of the academic council and that the NEHU executive council cannot by itself decide to implement NEP.
