A two-week national refresher course titled, “AI Solutions for a Sustainable and Inclusive Future” concluded today at the North-Eastern Hill University (NEHU).
Organized jointly by the UGC-Malaviya Mission Teacher Training Centre (UGC-MMTTC) and the Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering, NEHU, the refresher course was held online from May 20, 2025, through Zoom via Moodle.
The program witnessed the participation of 102 faculty members from 25 states across India, covering topics such as artificial intelligence, machine learning, and their impactful applications in healthcare, education, climate change, and AI ethics.
Thirty-six expert resource persons from NEHU, IITs, and the industry contributed to the knowledge-sharing. Prof. Md. Iftekhar Hussain, Dean of the School of Technology, NEHU inaugurated the refresher course and emphasized AI’s potential in shaping future-ready education. Prof. Rupaban Subadar, Dean-in-Charge, addressed the valedictory session and lauded the participants’ active engagement.
Prof. H.K. Mishra, Director of UGC-MMTTC, spoke on aligning AI in teacher training as per NEP-2020.
Prof. Subhash Arya, Guest of Honour and Head of the Department, highlighted the department’s work in AI, 5G, Communications, Signal Processing, Chip-to-Startup, and Silicon Photonics.
The course was seamlessly coordinated by Dr. Juwesh Binong, with support from Dr. Kuheli B. Das as co-coordinator, anchor, and LMS trainer.
The program concluded with votes of thanks delivered by Dr. Jaydeep Swarnakar and Dr. Sushanta Kabir Dutta on inaugural and valedictory day, respectively.
Participants especially appreciated the hands-on Python workshops and interactive AI sessions. With 58 male and 44 female participants, a majority earned A or A+ grades, reinforcing NEHU’s commitment to sustainable innovation through AI.
