The North East Congress Coordination Committee has expressed its grave concern over the situation that has engulfed Manipur in the last few days.
The Congress took aim at the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led government in Manipur, saying that the state is burning and is engulfed in hatred 15 months into the new government’s term.
The so-called double engine government (with the BJP in power at the Centre and Manipur) “has done precious little to maintain peace and tranquility, thus leading to this volatile situation leaving hundreds of churches and temples in cinders and rendering several thousand innocent Indian families homeless,” the committee said, adding that it is “deeply anguished over these unfortunate incidents that could have been averted with time-dictated and proper management of the concerns of the people.”
The Congress body further called the government “complacent” while urging the various communities of the state “irrespective of caste and community” to restrain themselves “in order to reestablish their age-old ties of brotherhood, peace and harmony amongst all.”
It also requested the Union Ministry of Home Affairs to deploy all resources at its disposal to contain the situation and restore normalcy, law and order in Manipur by taking into confidence all stakeholders.
