The Shillong regional office of the National Sample Survey Office (Field Operations Division), along with the rest of the country, will celebrate National Statistics Day on Thursday.
The celebration will take place at Shillong College from 2pm.
This year, the theme for the 17th Statistics Day is ‘Alignment of State Indicator Framework with National Indicator Framework for monitoring Sustainable Development Goals’.
National Statistics Day falls on the birth anniversary of Prof PC Mahalanobis (1893-1972), who is widely credited as the ‘Father of the Indian Statistical System’. His pioneering work in this field contributed greatly to the nation in planning, development and several other fields.
The major objective of celebrating Statistics Day is the creation of public awareness, especially among the young generation, on the role and importance of statistics in socio-economic planning and policy formulation for development of a country.
