The District Transport Officer of East Khasi Hills in collaboration with the district administration and police observed the National Road Safety Month 2024 here today.
Addressing the gathering, Superintendent of Police (Traffic) K Prasad said that every year there are thousands of lives lost by accident in the country and the reason is due to rash driving, speeding and not respecting others’ rights.
He also informed that last year the Meghalaya Police registered 46 cases that led to 40 deaths. In January 2024 six cases were registered that claimed six lives and 13 grievous injuries.
Prasad urged drivers to drive cautiously and not to overtake on the busy roads of Shillong.
Outgoing Deputy Commissioner of East Khasi Hills, RM Kurbah, urged parents to assume responsibility for their children and instruct them in road safety.
