Through your esteemed daily,I would like to Share my experience in NEIGRIHMS which definitely many are experiencing, but not coming forward to share.
My first experience was with the security deptt then the Patient’s registration deptt. The staff here were very well behaved and cooperative. Later I had to go to the Birth and Death registration department, where I came across two male staff. I am filled with appreciation by their cooperation, professionalism and help. Really an efficient deptt.
The doctors I came across are really efficient professionally and what I saw in the other depts during my stay there, patients are very satisfied with the doctors and treatment there. I myself feel I got excellent medical treatment for my relative by the dedicated doctors there.
But the behaviour of the nursing staffs and ward girls, ward boys there is horrible. The way the nurses address the attendants, there is not even little respect in their tones. Their behaviours are worst towards the non local patients and attendants. Maybe they are scared to misbehave with the locals. They show an attitude as though they are doing mercy. The nurses keep laughing loud, chatting in the nurse station which is disturbing for the sick. Whenever any attendant calls them for help they come with rude words and frowning faces, as though they are doing a big favour . Some good nurses are there, but their numbers are few.
Whenever a patient is brought to the ward after surgery, delivary etc, the sisters make the attendant climb the patient’s bed and help carry the patient from trolley to bed. One lady after the cesarean-section was struggling to feed her child. As she did not know asked a nurse to help. The sister rudely replied” This is not my work. Why became mother at 33years? You do not know yourself? This is a very insulting reply.
Even in the Cardiac ICU the same attitude. Sisters do not even come to see the patient and keep instructing from the nurse station. After surgery the attendants hesitate to move the patient themselves, change their clothes, give bed pans, do sponging etc .If help from the nurse is sought, they start shouting. Even in the private wards a senior nurse shouts at the attendants. Many sisters often say ” this is a government hospital. If you want so many services by a nurse, go to a private hospital.”
I would like to point out here we ask for the basic services only which we non medical people do not know. NEIGRIHMS is a Central Government Hospital. You staffs there are getting central government pay scale. You all are getting much higher salaries than your counterparts in private hospitals. But you cannot compare your services and behaviours with them. You all are paid for your work by the government.
In private hospitals the sisters do bed making, the ward girls empty the urine bag and give bed pans to patients. The staffs shift the patient from trolley to bed after they come from any OT, not the attendants. But in Neigrihms, the attendant have to do everything themselves. The sisters just come and tell the medicines & the attendant has to give. All the attendants are not educated. If they make mistakes in giving medicines and give wrong medicines?
More the attendants are uneducated, the more these sisters and ward staff look down, misbehave and make them work more. And the ward girls, ward boys they make the attendants push patient’s trolleys and wheelchairs. Walk around Neigrihms. You will see this pleasant sight of attendants pushing patient’s wheelchairs, trolleys around. But when the doctors came for rounds, these same sisters wear a different mask. Their behaviours totally changes in front of the doctors.
I would hereby request the concerned authorities to kindly look into the matter and teach dedication and good behaviours to the staff. They are not doing any personal favour for us who are going for treatment there. The same Government who is giving us the facilities is also paying them salaries for providing service to the patients. Good behaviour helps in the healing process of the patients too.
