Jowai, Apr 11: The Muphlang Government L.P. School in the West Jaintia Hills District, celebrated its platinum jubilee on Thursday, marking 75 years since its establishment in 1951.
The event was attended by government officials, community leaders, dedicated teachers, students, and local villagers.
The festivities included a mass drill performed by students from classes I to V, followed by an entertaining dance performance by pre-primary students.
Head teacher Ibaniakyntiew Lamare shared the school’s inspiring journey, starting from its roots as a mission school at the Presbyterian Church premises. With the unwavering support of teachers and community members, the institution expanded and received official government recognition.
The school currently has five teachers and an enrolment of 187 students, comprising 93 boys and 94 girls, from pre-primary to Class V.
Education Minister Lahkmen Rymbui who attended the celebration as the chief guest, assured the community that the government is dedicated to enhancing educational infrastructure and pledged ₹11 lakh for new construction efforts at the school.
SDSEO Jowai, EDM Synrem praised the vision of the school founders and the community’s role in its sustainability.
Rymbui also laid the foundation stone for the construction of a new school building.
Retired teachers were honoured for their invaluable contributions on the occasion.
