Shillong, Apr 11: As part of the ongoing Swachhata Pakhwada observance, NEIGRIHMS recently organised the 7th Swachhata conference, known as Hygeia to discuss issues concerning hygiene, sanitation, and public health.
The conference gathered experts from NEIGRIHMS, who shared their insights on the importance of maintaining cleanliness in public spaces. They highlighted that improving hygiene standards is not just a matter of aesthetics but a vital aspect of safeguarding public health.
Various speakers addressed the challenges faced in promoting effective sanitation practices and how they relate to broader health issues.
A total of around 130 participants including doctors, nurses and sanitation staff from various government and private healthcare institutes participated in the conference.
Speaking during the inauguration ceremony Director NEIGRIHMS, Prof. Nalin Mehta said that institute is committed to improve the sanitation and hygiene standards across Meghalaya by handholding, educating and discussing these issues through such innovative platforms. He added that along with cleanliness and hygiene, it is also equally of paramount importance to control the infections with rational and judicious use of antibiotics to prevent the occurrence of drug resistance in future.
He also encouraged all the participating institutes to formulate institutional policies for antibiotics usage and collaborate with other centres to develop a common action plan as a SOP.
A Waste to Art competition to promote environment friendly waste practices with motto of reduce, reuse and recycle the waste, Quiz Competition was also organised with participants from various government and private health institutes
A Swachhata pledge signing campaign was also initiated where NEIGRIHMS staff and delegates committed to keep the workplace and locality clean and increase awareness about the hygienic environment.
A session on coping with workload and fatigue was also held for health workers.
