The Trinamool Congress (TMC) is absolutely committed to the people of Meghalaya and will outperform other parties at the February 27 Assembly election, leader of the opposition Dr Mukul Sangma has said.
Asked whether the TMC is putting up dummy candidates, Dr Sangma said, “Our candidates are giving a fight and will win. We’re ahead of all the other political parties and we will win close to 30 seats, so why would we put up dummy candidates?”
Stating that the party is fighting to ensure that it lives up to the expectations of the people who want to see regime change in Meghalaya, he said, “It’s amazing the way the TMC has established itself with the love and affection of the people.”
When asked about the repeated allegation made by the ruling National People’s Party (NPP) that the TMC MLAs will quit the party and join the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) following the election, Dr Sangma described it in no uncertain terms as a “lie”.
“They (the NPP) will say and promise anything and will lie before the people just to get votes,” he said.
