The Dorbar Shnong of Urmasi-u-Joh has opposed the decision of the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) to recognise the area called Mawsaw as a separate village.
Addressing reporters today, the Sordar of Urmasi-u-Joh, Phaston Wankhar, said that the KHADC issued an order on December 13 to recognise Mawsaw as a village, a decision he claims was political given the upcoming district council election.
Before Christmas the Dorbar Shnong of Umphyrnai had also come out in opposition to the KHADC recognition, claiming that Mawsaw falls under its jurisdiction.
Wankhar said that the KHADC’s decision goes against the will of the Dorbar Shnong of Urmasi-u-Joh and Hima Khyrim. The dorbar has held an emergency meeting and decided to push the KHADC to reverse its order. Wankhar also said that the Syiem of Hima Khyrim has not issued a no-objection certificate (NOC) to recognise Mawsaw as a new village.
