The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast fairly widespread to widespread rains of light to moderate intensity, along with isolated heavy to very heavy downpours (64.5 mm-204 mm), across Meghalaya, Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Sikkim and Sub-Himalayan West Bengal during the next five days — from June 30 to July 4.
Today, Pynursla recorded the heaviest rainfall in the State at 296.0 mm. It was followed by Mawsynram (191.8 mm), Sohra (131.2 mm) and Mawkyrwat (128 mm). In Shillong, the rainfall was recorded at just 27.1 mm.
Meanwhile, according to the Weather Channel, due to the persistent wet spells experienced this month, some north-eastern states and subdivisions are among the very few Indian regions to have received ‘normal’ precipitation for June.
These include Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim (511.6 mm), Assam (429.2 mm), Meghalaya (801.1 mm) and Nagaland (219 mm).
“On the flip side, Arunachal (309.7 mm), Tripura (322.1 mm), Mizoram (285.1 mm) and Manipur (175 mm) have all recorded figures below their respective averages for the first 29 days of the month, indicating a rainfall deficit,” the Weather Channel said.
