To commemorate World Social Work Day, the School of Social Work at Martin Luther Christian University (MLCU) organised a Regional Social Work Conference in collaboration with the National Association of Professional Social Workers and the Office of the Dean of Academics.
The conference, which was held at the State Central Library on the theme, “Supporting Individuals, Empowering Communities”, is to provide a platform for students, faculty, and practitioners to share their experiences and showcase their work.
It aims to promote individual transformation and community empowerment, fostering resilience, inclusivity, and sustainable progress.
By bridging the gap between academic and field practice, the conference encouraged critical thinking and intervention-based problem-solving skills amongst students, aligning with the New Education Policy 2020. To achieve this, the MLCU said, the department introduced Action-Based Research, where students developed innovative intervention strategies in their areas of interest.
The outcome of these interventions included manuals, comics, brochures, and community-based initiatives, strengthening the connection between institutional mechanisms and beneficiaries, it added.
By fostering a collaborative environment, the conference contributed to the development of competencies and skills within the social work profession, ultimately empowering communities and driving positive change.
Directorate of School Education and Literacy Director Swapnil Tembe, Mangneo Lhungdim, Executive Director, OASIS, India and Pradyut Bhattacharjee, Executive Director, SeSta attended the programme as well as several partnering NGOs working in the development sector.
