Three IAS officers from Meghalaya will be released from the State from August 18 to enable them to report for the Assistant Secretary programme at New Delhi.
The three IAS officers of 2021 batch are Dr. Abhishek Saini who is the Assistant Commissioner of Ri-Bhoi, Saloni Verma who is the Assistant Commissioner of East Khasi Hills and Sumit Kumar Singh who is the Assistant Commissioner of West Garo Hills.
The Assistant Secretary programme was introduced from 2015 starting with the 2013 batch with the objective of enabling the officers to see, work and understand the nuances of working in the Government of India.
The high point of this is the presentations made by the new entrants before the Prime Minister of India.
Under the Assistant Secretary Training Programme, the officers are posted as Assistant Secretaries in Ministries or Departments of the Government of India.
This posting was part of a unique initiative started by the Central government to groom bureaucrats at the Centre before they move out to their respective state cadre.
The objective of this programme is to provide exposure to the young IAS officers about the functioning of the Government of India at an early stage in their career on completion of their Phase II training at Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration, Mussoorie. The Assistant Secretaries are posted for a total period of 13 weeks.
