Shillong, Feb 21:To commemorate the 39th Statehood Day of Mizoram, the Young Mizo Association (YMS) and the Mizo Students Union (MSU) organised a blood donation camp at the Mizoram House in Cleve Colony, here on February 20.
YMA President Ricky Renthlei highlighted the importance of observing Mizoram’s 39th Statehood Day not merely as a celebration, but as a day dedicated to service and giving back to society.
Medical Superintendent of MCH Hospital, Umsning Dr. Laldinpuia reflected on the transformation of the Mizo community over time. He remarked that while the Mizos were once known as “headhunters” in history, today they are known as life savers—an identity that perfectly aligns with the noble act of donating blood on such an important and special day. He encouraged all present by saying, “Let us be a blessing for all.”
Dr.Debdutta Bhattacharya from the NEIGRIHMS blood bank appreciated the Mizo community for their consistent support over the years. He spoke highly of the community, describing it as a closely knit and disciplined society, and shared that in his experience, they often turn up in numbers exceeding expectations whenever there is a call for blood donation.
More than 100 volunteers turned up to donate blood. However, due to limited equipment and arrangements, only about 70 donors could be accommodated and successfully donated blood.
