An 18 year old girl who is also an orphan was found murdered by unknown miscreants today at a place in Sohkymphor village of East Jaintia Hills district.
The victim who was looked after by her aunty since she lost her parents at a very young age is a ninth class student of Tia Chaphrang Secondary School, Sohkymphor.
Her body was found in a jungle in the village today morning. It was suspected that the girl was strangulated before her neck was cut. There are also suspicions that the miscreants had raped the girl before killing her.
The body was taken over by Lad Rymbai police and kept at Khliehriat community health centre for post mortem. A forensic team from Shillong also visited the crime scene to try to trace the killers.
According to family members, the girl left home for school yesterday morning but did not return even after school was over at 11 am.
Worried by her not returning home, the family members visited the school and sought details from teachers who told them that after leaving the school she went to Sohkymphor market.
Later in the evening a search for the missing girl was conducted by local villagers.
Today, during search at a place near the jungle, they found her school bag, scattered text books and items that she bought from the market. On entering the jungle, the villagers found her body.
Sohkymphor village secretary, Iaidmon Bareh has condemned the murder and demanded immediate arrest of the culprits.
“She was a very good girl. All villagers are very sad with this incident. We convey our deepest condolences to her family members,” Bareh said.
KSU Sohkymphor unit president, Remiki Lyngdoh and FKJGP East Jaintia Hills general secretary, Deihok Sumer while expressing shock over this gruesome murder, demanded justice for the victim and stern punishment to the culprits.
