Miscreants hurled a petrol bomb at a police gypsy parked outside the premises of the Mawlai police station.
The incident happened at around 2:40 am today. There was no one inside the vehicle at the time of the incident but the vehicle bearing registration number ML 02 0194 was damaged in the incident.
East Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police Rituraj Ravi said, there were five unknown miscreants responsible for the attack.
He said a case has been registered under section 120B/307/427/436/34 of the IPC and section 3 of the Explosive Substance Act, 1908 and section 4 of the Prevention of Damage to Public Property Act, 1984.
Efforts are ongoing to apprehend the culprits responsible for the attack.
