Shillong, Sep 16: Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma on Wednesday laid the foundation stone for the ₹24.27 crore redevelopment of Malki Market at Malki Ground, in presence of MLA Ampareen Lyngdoh.
The project is part of market infrastructure upgrades worth around ₹130 crore under the state budget, besides over ₹100 crore under Smart City in Shillong. These include Laitumkhrah Shopping Complex ₹38 crore, Polo Development ₹30 crore, Ïewduh ₹14 crore, Laban ₹14 crore and others.
Sangma said the Malki allocation is among the highest for any market project, reflecting its potential as an economic hub. He directed the Urban Affairs Department to ensure quality and timely completion, urging Rangbah Shnongs to act as social audit.
He said work has begun to develop Barik Point as an urban hub, a four-lane road from Rilbong Museum to Civil Hospital is at advanced stage, and 75 per cent civil work of the New Secretariat is complete.
Lyngdoh also laid foundation for upgradation of Indoor Sports Hall, Basketball Court and two-storey parking at Khliehshnong, Malki at ₹3.27 crore.
