Assembly Speaker Metbah Lyngdoh today laid the foundation stone of the Greater Mairang Water Supply Scheme (GMWSS) under the central government’s Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) at a function organized by the Public Health Engineering Department in Mairang.
Also present at the programme were PHE Minister Renikton Lyngdoh Tongkhar, Commissioner and Secretary in the PHE Department SMA Razi, Syiem of Hima Nongkhlaw P.M Syiemlieh, Deputy Commissioner of Eastern West Khasi Hills W Nongsiej, Superintendent of Police MB Syiem and others.
Delivering his address as chief guest Metbah appealed to concerned stakeholders in the community to actively support the PHE Department during the implementation of the scheme, which is due to commence soon.
Stating that the JJM is time-bound, with the mission scheduled to end in 2024, the Speaker expressed hope that, with the right support and cooperation of all relevant stakeholders, the scheme will be completed as per the scheduled time frame.
The Greater Mairang Water Supply, estimated to cost Rs 118 crore, is set to benefit 4,611 households of 10 villages under the Greater Mairang area, namely Pyndengumiong A, Pyndengumiong B, Mairang Mission, Mairangbah, Lumsohkhlur, Mawlong, Sangshong, Madan Bynther, Umthied Bynther and Nongbah Bynther.
