Two climbers of the Meghalaya Sport Climbing and Mountaineering Association (MeSCMA) have been nominated to undergo mountaineering courses at the Himalayan Mountaineering Institute (HMI) in Darjeeling from April 1 to 28.
Keliostar Pdai, a Constable of 3rd MLP Battalion has been nominated to attend the Basic Mountaineering Course (BMC) while Balawanhabor Rynjah, a student of Sankardev College for the Advance Mountaineering Course (AMC).
The training course is sponsored by the Directorate of Sports and Youth Affairs, Meghalaya.
BMC is the foundation course where the trainees will be initiated into the world of acclimatization in the high altitudes, rock and ice craft, basic study of the mountain vegetation, trekking and survival skills.
AMC typically lasts 28 days and is designed for individuals who have completed a BMC with an “A” grade, AMC aims at training the trainees to become potential leaders and members of expeditions into the Great Himalayas and to churn out ‘Lead Climbers’.
