Members of the Meghalaya Deaf Association (MDA) attended the 8th All India Conference of the deaf held in New Delhi recently.
The four-day conference featured rights-based activities, including presentations, lecture and panels discussions on topics concerning the rights of persons with hearing and speech impairment, exhibition stalls showcasing innovative solutions and services for the deaf community. Additionally, cultural events, such as dance and drama, and a story-telling competition through sign language were held highlighting the rich cultural heritage of the community.
The conference was organised by the All India Federation of the Deaf (AIFD) from February 28 to March 2 that brought together over 500 participants from across the country.
The MDA has extended its gratitude to the AIFD for inviting its members to participate in the conference and urged the State government to support in organising similar events, aiming to create awareness about the rights of persons with speech and hearing impairment.
