The dorbar shnong of Mawlyndep village in Ri-Bhoi has issued a stern warning to all villagers and outsiders against the burning of forests, which leads to detrimental effects on the environment and potential risk to residents.
The cautionary measure comes in the wake of a recent incident where unidentified individuals set fire to a portion of the forest within Mawlyndep’s jurisdiction on Monday evening, sparking concerns for the safety of local inhabitants.
Jinu Kharbuki, the headman of Mawlyndep village, emphasised the gravity of the situation, stressing that burning forests during the dry season could lead to irreparable environmental damage and heighten the risk of fires spreading to nearby homes.
He warned that the dorbar shnong would maintain vigilant oversight, with severe repercussions for any individual found violating the directive.
