A man identified as Marson Lamin has been sentenced to two years of rigorous imprisonment for an act of assault with a dangerous weapon.
The judgement was passed by the Sessions Judge of West Jaintia Hills, Noor Ain Khan on Jun 14, a delayed press release informed. Lamin also has to pay a fine of Rs 5,000 in default of which he will have to serve a month’s simple imprisonment.
The case goes back to February 2015 when the mother (Melinda Phawa) of Comfortme Phawa complained to police that her son had been struck from behind by Lamin.
As Lamin has already spent one year and 22 days behind bars, he will have to serve the remaining sentence of 11 months and 11 days, the judge ruled.
Although a case was registered soon after the incident took place at Jowai police station, it was only charge-sheeted in March this year.
