A person was murdered by armed masked men in his home at Dotdrongre village near Tikrikilla in West Garo Hills district last night.
The victim has been identified as one Dingson Sangma. The incident apparently took place in his home while he was resting after dinner.
Two masked gunmen entered their house while the rest of their group stood outside the house and kept watch. The family of the victim suspected the murder to be targeted killing as they only sought out the victim and even threatened his daughter and son from interfering in their act of murder.
The criminals first gunned Sangma down and even slashed his throat before fleeing the scene. The matter was then informed to the Tikrikilla PS this morning after which a police team rushed to the spot to conduct an inquiry.
Superintendent of police, Vivekanand Singh said that prima facie, the case seems to be one of murder. Further investigation into the matter is currently on.
Meanwhile the Association of Nokmas and Gaonbura of the Tikrikilla and the Achik Youth Council (AYC) have condemned the murder.
“We condemn the killing of Dingson in the highest terms. He was killed in a pre determined and gruesome manner in front of his family. One of the murderers even pointed to Dingson saying that he was the one they wanted (as per the wife of the victim). They indiscriminately opened fire and killed him on the spot. The gruesome killing has shocked us all,” said the convener of the Nokmas and Gaonburas, Walseng Sangma.
“This incident has shaken the peace and tranquility of the area and these diabolical acts against an old man is extremely unfortunate. We condemn the barbaric action of criminal gangs and demand that proper and thorough investigation be initiated. The culprits must be arrested immediately and charged with first degree murder,” added Walseng.
