The All Selsella NGOs’ Alliance has revived its demand for deployment of a permanent wildlife forest guard at Selsella Balalgre after a man was attacked by a wild elephant.
According to the NGO, a man suffered injuries after he was attacked by a wild elephant at his cashew nut plantation on May 8. The man suffered leg injury and his medical condition remains critical, it said.
In a letter to the Divisional Forest Officer Wildlife Division, Tura the NGO reminded the office of a memorandum in 2023 that highlighted the frequent movement of wild elephants in the Selsella area and its demand for immediate protection measures. “However, no effective steps were taken, and our request appears to have been neglected, putting the lives of local residents at risk,” NGO co-chairman S. Archister Ch Marak said.
Marak said the NGO is saddened and concerned over the suffering of the victim and disheartened that the department failed to provide any medical compensation to the affected individual.
