Shillong, Apr 25: East Khasi Hills police have arrested a 42-year-old man for allegedly beating his co-tenant to death in Mawblei on Saturday morning.
According to reports, Sanjau Kumar assaulted his co-tenant, Sumeet Kr Singha (40) at around 8 am within their shared residential building.
Police said that a “no parking” board was utilised as a weapon during the violent dispute.
Superintendent of Police Vivek Syiem has stated that the preliminary investigation suggests a personal dispute was the catalyst for the altercation.
According to police reports, the arguments escalated as the victim, Sumeet, suspected his co-tenant of having an affair with his wife. This emotional strain led to a heated exchange that unfortunately turned fatal.
Singha was quickly taken to Supercare Hospital but was declared dead upon arrival.
“An altercation between the two led to the assault. The accused has been taken into custody, and further investigation is underway,” Syiem said.
The police are currently examining the sequence of events that resulted in this tragic fatality.
