Chief Minister Conrad Sangma today inspected the completed upgradation work of the Mairang-Ranigodown-Azra Road.
“This is another election promise delivered to the people, a project we diligently followed up when we took over the government in 2018,” Sangma said as he recalled that during 2010-11 he had spoke about the need to improve the road.
Pointing out that road connectivity is a precursor to development the chief minister said the road will open opportunities for commercial trade, tourism and other areas of food processing and other industries to develop.
Since this road will be in proximity to Guwahati more development will take place in the future, Sangma said, “We will also be able to develop the concept of satellite city, where the government will be able to create zones and proximity to Guwahati will be advantageous.”
The Mairang-Ranigodown-Azra Road will serve as an alternate route connecting Eastern West Khasi Hills and Ri Bhoi Districts to Guwahati city and its airport area and will bring many opportunities for development.
The upgradation of the Mairang-Ranigodown-Azra Road with total length of 78.914 Km was taken up in March 2021 and was completed in March 2023 at an estimated cost of Rs 230.60 crore.
