Nongpoh, Nov 2: A Manipur-registered liquified petroleum gas (LPG) truck (MN 03D 3342) overturned today while on National Highway 6 near Umtrew, Ri-Bhoi.
The truck landed on its side in a pond while on its way to Shillong. The driver, Priyo Kumar Singha, received serious injuries and was rushed to Umsning Community Health Centre for treatment.
The vehicle may have been overspeeding at the time of the incident. Personnel from Umiam Police Station have initiated an investigation into the matter.
As a safety precaution, the police did not immediately attempt to move the overturned truck, as they waited for an inspection by technical experts from the LPG company to ensure that there was no risk in moving the vehicle with its inflammable cargo.
