Shillong, Nov 2: North Shillong MLA Adelbert Nongrum has emphasised the need to strengthen the police force to combat the rising crimes and drug menace in the state.
Speaking to Highland Post recently, he said the police need to be equipped with modern tools and technology to tackle the growing threat of crime. Nongrum suggested that the crime branch needs to be strengthened to effectively investigate and solve crimes.
He also suggested that plain clothes policing should be intensified to gather intelligence and prevent crimes.
He stressed on the Installation of good quality CCTVs across the state was also highlighted as a necessary measure to tackle crimes.
On the issue of rising drug menace, Nongrum said that there is a need to adopt the latest technology to detect the entry of drugs from entry points. He suggested that stringent checking at entry and exit points without sparing any high-level personality would go a long way in tackling the issue.
Nongrum also urged the state to have stringent laws for drug offenses and not wait for the state to become worse like other states and countries. He added that as a society, it is our collective responsibility to take the issue seriously and not let it further penetrate into our state.
