Loitering around the graveyard and forest areas of Lawmali has been banned and if anyone is found involved in drug peddling or consumption of drugs and alcohol, would be arrested.
The decision was taken at a joint meeting convened by Superintendent of Police (City) Vivek Syiem held at the Police Reserve here today.
The meeting was attended by Rangbah Shnongs and Dorbar members of Riatsamthiah, Wahingdoh, Jaiaw Shyiap, Jaiaw Mihngi and Mawlai Phudmuri and Sector Police Officers, in charge ANTF and office in charge of police Stations and beat houses of the city.
Syiem said the meeting was held to dwell on the rampant illegal activities inside and around the graveyard and forest areas at Lawmali has become a matter of utmost concern for the localities adjacent to the area.
He said that other measures such as booking those involved in illegal activities at night in and around the area or found consuming alcohol or drugs inside vehicles by the roadside will be booked under Section 110 of Meghalaya Police Act and the NDPS Act, as the case may be.
In order to prevent entry at night by such anti-social elements in the area which is under the forest department, matters on fencing and construction of a gate will be taken up with the department, he informed.
Further, other measure to curb the menace of drug abuse and trafficking in the city were also discussed at the meeting and suggestions were also given by the dorbars.
