The dorbar shnong of Lapangap has demanded deployment of central forces in the village to prevent any attempt by local Karbi population to destroy plantations.
Lapangap village is located in the border of West Jaiñtia Hills District and West Karbi Anglong District.
The dorbar shnong accompanied by the leaders of the Jaiñtia Students’ Movement (JSM), Western Region had attended a meeting called by the district administration today to discuss the problems faced by residents and to restore peace in the border village.
During the meeting, the dorbar also submitted a written request for deployment for central forces as the harvest season nears.
According to the dorbar, Deputy Commissioner Batlang S Sohliya has assured to take up the demand with the government and to hold a meeting between the two communities so that agriculture does not get affected.
Incidences of destruction of plantation have been reported in the past and the recent one being a viral video of Meghalaya police personnel running after they were charged by the Karbis. Though this was countered by the Superintendent of Police, Chemphang Syrti that cops ran to prevent any untoward incident.
