Shillong, Jan 28: The Kendriya Vidyalaya of Umroi Cantonment organised the 55th Universal Postal Union (UPU) International Letter-Writing Competition for Young People 2026 in the school library yesterday.

The competition was conducted by the Field Post Office (FPO) under the aegis of India Post, as per the prescribed guidelines.

The competition was organised for students in the age group of 9–15. The theme for the year was ‘Write a letter to a friend about why human connection matters in a digital world’. The programme was conducted under the supervision of teachers and FPO personnel.

Students were deeply engaged in writing their letters during the activity. The handwritten entries reflected creativity, emotional understanding and thoughtful expression on the importance of human relationships in today’s technology-driven world, a press release stated today. The activity also helped students enhance their writing skills, imagination and awareness of social values.

Class 9 students gain from group counselling

A group counselling and awareness programme was organised today for the students of Class 9 of Kendriya Vidyalaya Umroi Cantonment with the objective of promoting emotional well-being, life skills and health awareness among adolescents.

The first group counselling session was conducted by a psychological counsellor and covered topics such as understanding peer pressure, identifying and handling bullying, developing self-confidence, decision-making skills, learning how to say ‘no’ in difficult situations, emotional well-being and mental health awareness.

Through an interactive digital presentation and open discussion, students were encouraged to express their views and clarify their doubts, a press release stated today. The counsellor guided students on adopting positive coping strategies and making responsible decisions in their academic and social lives.

A second session saw a practical and informative demonstration on basic life support (BLS). Students were made aware of basic first-aid measures, emergency response techniques and the importance of immediate action during medical emergencies.
